Ok now this blog is going to be a sort of rant as i saw something on my social media (when do i do anything else but this?!) which made me want to punch a wall! It is this post from the Facebook page 'Tumblr.' I am not a user of Tumblr as i can not grasp the concept of how to use it but i do love seeing pictures of things that happen on there, apart from when it looks like this....
As a girl with anxiety i do not find this at all hilarious or want one for myself. I do not understand how it is funny to put something on social media about a mental illness. I am outraged that it has got to the point where it is acceptable to take a mental illness and talk so freely about it or change lyrics to it onto something that people would wear in public. Anyone who feels that freely about their anxiety, i am seriously doubting you.
I had to do a bit more research into this before i actually posted this in case it was indeed just another Tumblr post where the picture has been editted. But NO. This is a true and real shirt that can be purchased online from various places in sizes and colours. URGH IT MAKES ME SO MAD!
No matter how many times i see this picture it makes me want to let out my scream that I'm constantly doing internally at this.
Mental illness is no joke and it can not be helped, having anxiety really sucks and affects my daily life, but it does not mean i should put it on a shirt - even as a joke - just to make myself feel better or make it seem less real as a joke.
Im very sorry to say this but if you own this shirt, i am disappointed...
To you all, i am just a Hidden Identity

What it said on that t-shirt wasn't very funny I agree with you. I personally definetly would not want to be in 'the club' XD

This is exactly what i mean, i very much doubt that anyone including myself who has social anxiety would want to go anywhere near a club in the first place!

I think with mental illnesses nowadays it is seen as "cool" to have an illness. I know many people at my school think it's funny to cut themselves and I've actually known someone do it just to get attention. Mental problems and other conditions are so idolized nowadays which is so ridiculous. No one knows how it feels unless you experience anxiety yourself. I too find this T-Shirt ridiculous. No one in their right minds would think of making a T-Shirt like "Walk Up to the club like what up I have cancer" because it is mocking and appalling, and this is doing the exact same thing. I totally agree with you.
ReplyDeleteBookmarking your page because your posts really spark a thought or two in my head.

I do not see myself how cutting can be seen as funny and why people would want to do it for attention when it is a very serious thing to do, it just shows how society is failing and its getting embarrassing to be part of this generation.
DeleteThanks you very much :)

I agree with this post completely, and am so glad that someone has spoke up about such an important matter.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that people are making money from the manufacture and sale of these disgusting t-shirts truly sickens me.
I can imagine how offensive it must be to those who struggle with a mental illness on a daily basis, to see such mockery upon social media; a place which is often seen as a place in which many can escape from the troubles of everyday life.

This makes me so angry. Seriously, who do these people think they are?
ReplyDeleteMental illness is nothing to joke about whatsoever. There are people in this cruel world that suffer from such bad social anxiety that they get nervous just going to a party or gathering, and these despicable people think it is okay to make a mockery of it by making t-shirts that poke FUN at this illness?
This sickens me. It really does. What right have they to stick offensive slogans on t-shirts and make a profit from hurting people who actually suffer from mental illness on a daily basis?
I really do agree with what you have said and mental illness should not be taken as a joke as it's sickening when people do it. I have suffered from mental problems before some that I'm not proud off but still what seems funny to one person becomes a mockery to the other and it really is awful how people do it. So I totally agree with what you have said on this post.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have nominated you to answer a question on my blog it's only a small question but its one that gets asked a lot so it would be nice to see your reaction.

This really is horrible! I luckily don't suffer from anxiety, but It still makes me mad and sad, even disappointed, because society allows this kind of mockery. I know anxiety is becoming more and more ''popular'' on social media with almost everyone complaining how ''annoying'' it can be. I do believe there are many people that actually have this problem and also a lot of them that are just searching for attention. Lately people think that if you're a little bit more shy and don't like crowds you already suffer from social anxiety. This makes it look less serious that it actually is. This kind of posts only make it worse! :/
